Goals from Rodriguez, Perez, Gonzalez propel black-and-gold in tune-up.

Los Angeles Football Club continued their preseason preparations with their second tune-up game on Friday, defeating New York City FC 3-1 at The Banc.

Brian Rodriguez opened the scoring for LAFC, before Adrien Perez scored his second preseason goal in as many games, and 2020 MLS Draft pick Jorge Gonzalez added a tally in the second half. Dwayne De Rosario’s son, Osaze, an NYCFC academy player, scored the consolation goal in the second half for the visitors.

The game was a closed-door affair, but there’s a few video and photo clips from the proceedings. Here’s Rodriguez’s goal:

And Perez’s goal was a penalty:

De Rosario’s goal came on what looks like a counterattack:

As for who played, this was the starting lineup for LAFC:

GK - Kenneth Vermeer; Diego Palacios, Jordan Harvey, Dejan Jakovic, Tristan Blackmon; Latif Blessing, Bryce Duke, Josh Perez; Carlos Vela, Adama Diomande, Brian Rodriguez

The De Rosario goal video shows Pablo Sisniega playing GK in the second half, and I am fairly confident I spotted Alejandro Guido on the field, too. Obviously Gonzalez played, too, because he scored. Other specific info is TBD, I expect the team to release that info at some point, and we’ll update it when we get it.

For now, what to make of it? LAFC are still credibly missing both starting center backs and two starting midfielders. The big thing is for the team to prepare for the first competitive match, against Club Leon on Feb. 18, and while preseason wins are good, the games that count are still to come.
