LAFC acquire international slot from Vancouver Whitecaps

Presumably getting ducks in a row for the new addition.

Los Angeles Football Club announced Thursday they have acquired an international slot for the rest of the 2020 season from the Vancouver Whitecaps in a trade, in exchange for LAFC’s natural first-round MLS draft pick in 2023.

The move appears to be a crunch move to get an international slot for new signing Jesús David Murillo, who was announced on Wednesday and will likely be pressed into action as soon as he is cleared to play and is fit. Giving up a first-round pick for what amounts to a month, give or take, of a slot is fairly steep, but LAFC were likely stuck and in need of a slot ASAP, so they got the deal done. It will be worth it if Murillo is the starting center back they were looking for.

Also, this means LAFC are almost certainly not going to sign any more internationals before the current window closes Oct. 29. And given the season is winding to a close anyway, there’s little time to wait around to make a move. Plus, LAFC’s roster is full. So the wheeling and dealing is probably done for the 2020 season, but we’ll let you know if that changes.
