Just over two weeks until Los Angeles Football Club resume play in the 2020 Concacaf Champions League, as the confederation announced Tuesday their quarterfinal single-leg match against Liga MX outfit Cruz Azul will take place Wednesday, Dec. 16 at Orlando’s Exploria Stadium.
We already knew the game would be either Dec. 15 or 16, and now the date is finalized and final preparations can begin in earnest for the big night.
This tie is the only one of the quarterfinal round that was not started before the coronavirus shutdown in March and will therefore be the only one of the round that is a single-elimination game. The semifinals and final will all be single-elimination, however, should LAFC advance.
LAFC’s MLS season is over after losing in the MLS Cup Playoffs to the Seattle Sounders a week ago, while Cruz Azul remain in the Liga MX Playoffs, set to begin a two-leg set against Tigres that will run until Sunday, with the final coming between that and the CCL game should La Maquina advance.
The LAFC-Cruz Azul game is scheduled for 7:30 pm PT, and is likely to be aired on a Fox Sports network and TUDN, although confirmation of listings will come closer to the date. For now, we have a date and we can see if LAFC can make history, one game at a time.
