No surprises among the players selected.

LAFC’s run to the 2020 Concacaf Champions League final is over, but the accolades continue to roll in for the club.

Four players total were named to the Team of the Tournament from LAFC: forwards Carlos Vela and Diego Rossi, and defenders Diego Palacios and Jesús David Murillo.

Palacios also won the Young Player of the Tournament award, the only LAFC player to earn an individual award following Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to Tigres UANL in the final at Exploria Stadium in Orlando.

Vela was second overall in the tournament Golden Boot, with five goals scored in five games, one goal behind the leader Andre-Pierre Gignac. Rossi chipped in with two goals, tied for fourth overall in the scoring rankings. Palacios started each game at left back and played nearly every minute, while Murillo — who was only signed by LAFC in mid-October, — was a rock in central defense in the final three rounds for the black-and-gold.

I have no qualm with any of these selections, and while you could talk up a few more LAFC players for consideration, these are among the four most deserving players for the honor.

It’s obviously scant consolation for the players after they fell at the final hurdle to lift the CCL trophy, but it’s well-deserved to all four players. Congratulations to each of them!
