Bad news coming out of Los Angeles Football Club’s last preseason game, as head coach Bob Bradley announced on Wednesday that forward Adama Diomande has suffered a fracture in his foot in last Friday’s closed-door match against New York City FC.

On one hand, this solves the question of whether Dio was going to start or be the first attacking bench option (if LAFC doesn’t sell an attacker to Europe) for the time being, while it also raises the big question of who will be the central striker until Diomande is healthy. Will LAFC sign a new forward to offer depth, especially since Diomande has spent time out every season he’s been with the club? How long will he be out? Stay tuned.

Here’s more news for this Thursday:

  • New kit alert! The new LAFC kit is officially out, and here’s the details.
  • New CBA: In “boring but extremely important” news, MLS and the MLS Players Union announced a new CBA to run through the 2024 season on Thursday. The tl;dr is: Increased spending on salaries, teams required to run more charter flights to travel, and free agency is expanding to players 24 or older with at least five years in MLS. This is all important because it means there won’t be a strike or lockout to delay the season.
  • Draft picks depart: Vince La Rosa revealed in his weekly training notes column on the team website that 2020 draft picks Paulo Pita, Jorge Gonzalez and Younes Boudadi have left camp. The trio have not been offered contracts and likely won’t be, but you never know. Meanwhile, that apparently means the fourth draft pick this year, Jack Hallahan, remains in camp and in contention for a contract.
  • A fascinating look into MLS jersey design process: If you subscribe to The Athletic, you need to check out this story by Pablo Maurer on the design process of MLS jerseys with Adidas. I thought I knew a lot of the process and I was still left blindsided multiple times in this story!

Today’s question: A lot of big news today, so it’s a grab bag. Want to discuss Dio’s injury? Possible depth options while he’s out? The new LAFC kit? The CBA? Let’s chat in the comments below!
