Carlos Vela scored his 50th MLS regular season goal on Sunday for Los Angeles Football Club against the Philadelphia Union, and he found a novel new way to do it.

Vela scored a free kick, his first in league play for the black-and-gold, in the 38th minute at Banc of California Stadium, to tie the match.

Vela scored his 50th regular season goal in MLS in his 61st appearance, the third-fastest player to 50 goals in league history.

Vela also has a goal streak going, having scored in 11 straight games, which is approaching a league record, held by Josef Martinez, who scored in 15 consecutive appearances last year.

Across all competitions this season, Vela has four goals in four appearances. Any way you slice it, Vela is on a roll and his MVP form seems to have fully carried over from 2019. Long may it continue.
