Looking back at LAFC’s CCL rally for United Way coronavirus relief

Use your LAFC hat to make a rally cap to raise money.

It feels like it was just the other day and also a lifetime ago, but one of the big thrills for Los Angeles Football Club in their two years and change history was their big rally to overturn the aggregate score in their Concacaf Champions League series against Club León earlier this spring.

Let’s take a moment to look back at it for a good cause.

Down 2-0 after the first leg in Guanajuato, LAFC looked flat in their season opener and seemed like they might not be able to keep up to overturn the deficit. But in the second leg, at The Banc, Carlos Vela scored a brace to tie up the series, before Diego Rossi hit the late winner (was it a shot? A cross? Who cares!) to send the black-and-gold through to the CCL quarterfinals. What an incredible rally.

Ah, memories.

Now, the good cause? Let’s get to it. Our partner at DraftKings has teamed up with United Way to raise up to $1 million for coronavirus relief. All you need to do is take your LAFC hat and turn it into a rally cap (flip it inside out and put it back on).

For every person who shares their rally cap on social media with the #DKRally hashtag, DraftKings will donate $1 to the United Way’s coronavirus relief efforts until we reach a $1 million goal. The money will help United Way across a range of needs from food banks to medical services to unemployment support.

The promotion is running until April 7.

How you can join the DK Rally

  • Take a picture or video in your rally cap (be creative!)
  • Post to Twitter, Facebook or Instagram (or all if you want!)
