Los Angeles Football Club were on the clock for the first week of the eMLS Tournament Special, a 16-team bracket tournament airing on Fox Sports channels over the coming weeks, and the black-and-gold won their quadrant to advance to the finals.
The tournament, which pits two MLS players against each other on FIFA 20 in the first match, before the clubs’ respective eMLS pros play each other in the second half, featured an e Trafico to start things off, LAFC playing the LA Galaxy, with Adama Diomande beating Chicharito 1-0, before Martin Oregel beat Giuseppe Guastella 3-1 in the eMLS pros match, LAFC emphatically winning the match 4-1 on aggregate.
Dio’s message to Chicharito was simple: “Welcome to the US,” with the Mexican star laughing it off, because he got beat.
After the e Trafico triumph, LAFC then played the Chicago Fire for a spot in the finals, Dio squaring off against Francisco Calvo and absolutely working him, 4-0, including a brace of goals scored by virtual Dio, and a well-timed Jim Halpert look at the camera:
Then Oregel had to see it out after Diomande posted a comfortable lead, and he beat the Fire’s Enrique Espinoza 2-1 to win the tie 6-1 for LAFC.
So all in all, it was a good day for LAFC. Now, they have to wait for the remaining 12 teams to duke it out over the next three weeks, and then they’ll be back for the final four on May 17, which will also be aired on FS1 and Fox Deportes.
And the eMLS tournament also was for a good cause during the coronavirus pandemic, with MLS WORKS and Fox Sports each making a donation in LAFC’s name to Feeding America and Food Banks Canada.
