Los Angeles Football Club made it to the final four of MLS’s eMLS Cup Tournament Special competition, matching up current MLS players with current eMLS pros as two-man teams for clubs participating, but the black-and-gold fell in the semifinal round of Sunday’s final phase.
Adama Diomande got off to a good start in the match against Sporting Kansas City, beating Wan Kuzain Wan Kamal 2-1, but LAFC’s Martin Oregel lost 2-0 to SKC’s Alexander Betancourt, leaving Sporting KC to advance to the finals with a 3-2 aggregate win.
In the final, Sporting lost to Atlanta United, represented by player Franco Escobar and eMLS pro Paulo Neto. The league touted Atlanta’s “fourth title” as a club, which led to some chuckles over that framing.
So LAFC didn’t get the title, but they put in a good showing all things considered. Congrats to Martin and Adama, and I’m sure we’ll see them on the sticks again soon.
