Carlos Vela is one of the first athletes to have an endorsement with sports drink brand Bodyarmor, the brand co-owned by Kobe Bryant before his death. The Los Angeles Football Club superstar is the first MLS player to have an endorsement, and was included in a new ad campaign for the brand with a slew of superstar athletes that has an uplifting message.
The spot, titled “Only You Can Make You Better,” also features U.S. Women’s National Team and OL Reign star Megan Rapinoe, Houston Rockets star James Harden, LA Angels star Mike Trout, tennis phenom Naomi Osaka, Phoenix Mercury star Skylar Diggins-Smith, and golfer Dustin Johnson.
The message is that only you can take responsibility for getting better at anything — mentally, physically, and of course with your hydration habits (it is an ad, after all). Still, it’s an uplifting message and one that can be useful even in times like this, during the coronavirus pandemic.
Notably, Vela is the only player wearing his team’s gear in the spot, likely because LAFC and MLS have a partnership deal with Bodyarmor as of this year. But hey, that’s a little more promotion for the black-and-gold, too.
This spot will begin airing on TV this weekend.
