Orange County SC will look to get back on track after losing their last two games and a firm grip on 2nd place in Group B, when they take on fellow challengers San Diego Loyal Sunday night in San Diego.
OC had been rolling, but the last two games have brought them back down to Earth. After losing the second of a back-to-back against LA Galaxy II last weekend, OCSC then lost a heartbreaker, 2-1 to Sacramento Republic Wednesday, while up a man and on the road.
Honestly, both teams are quite good and normally there wouldn’t be a ton of shame in losing narrowly to either of them, but with it being a short season and the group standings being so tight, every game is crucial. Orange County are now out of the playoff spots in Group B, but they’re level on points with Los Dos, fully capable of overtaking them if they can get back in the win column.
But San Diego still have a chance of overtaking OCSC and Galaxy II, as they sit in 4th place only two points back. San Diego have been really inconsistent this season, but as an unusually experienced expansion team, they certainly have the quality capable of taking a win on any team.
So this is going to be a really big game. Will Orange County get back on track, or will San Diego put more hurt on them? Let’s tune in and find out.
