Orange County SC have just four games left in their 2020 USL Championship regular season and ground to make up, starting with a match Friday evening against Las Vegas Lights at Orange County Great Park.
OCSC are in the middle of their worst slump of the season, a three-game losing streak that has taken them from presumptive playoff team in Group B to three points behind in the chase and with two teams to surpass in order to reach the postseason. The playoffs have essentially started already for Braeden Cloutier’s side.
They’re taking on a Las Vegas side already statistically eliminated from playoff contention. But they beat Orange County in the teams’ last meeting, 3-1 on Aug. 25 in Vegas so they aren’t pushovers. Still, as predicted changing head coach on the eve of the season restart did not magically lead to a dream season for Las Vegas, so they will be looking to play spoiler from here on out in 2020.
It’s put up or shut up time for Orange County. If they can win, they’ll move back up the Group B standings and be level on points with LA Galaxy II, currently in the all-important 2nd place spot. With games against Los Dos, group leaders Phoenix Rising and a pair against Las Vegas to close out the regular season, Friday’s match for OCSC has to be win or bust. Should be a good one to watch.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 18 points (5-4-3); Goal Difference: 0; Last five games: L-L-L-W-D
Las Vegas Lights: 9 points (2-7-3), Goal Difference: -7; Last five games: L-L-L-D-L
