Good news, as two Los Angeles Football Club players were called up to international duty, with one selection in particular being very special.
Both forward Diego Rossi and forward Brian Rodriguez were called up to Uruguay’s national team by head coach Oscar Washington Tabarez, for World Cup qualifiers scheduled for Oct. 8 against Chile and Oct. 13 against Ecuador.
Rodriguez has six caps at international level for Uruguay, scoring three goals to date, but this is the first senior-team call-up for Rossi, who is leading MLS in the Golden Boot standings, with 10 goals in 11 regular-season games this year. So this call-up is really special for him and it’s fantastic for him to get the call.

El Cuerpo Técnico de @Uruguay reservó a 2⃣6⃣ futbolistas del exterior para enfrentar a Chile y Ecuador.
Inicio de los entrenamientos:
️5/10 - Complejo Celeste
8/10 - 19:45h - Montevideo
13/10 - 18h Uy - Quito
What does this mean for LAFC’s schedule? Will the key duo miss any playing time? Who knows, the league has yet to announce any fixtures in October and it’s unclear if Rossi and Rodriguez will need to quarantine for a spell after leaving the United States or not. If they do, and if it’s for more than a day or two, they may need to miss some time.
But we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. Congrats to Brian, but special felicidades to Diego, who has been fantastic and it’s great to see him get a look with the national team. Good luck to both of them on upcoming international duty and stay healthy!
