Orange County will look to solidify their grip on a playoff spot in Group B when they host LA Galaxy II for the second time this week Saturday evening at Orange County Great Park.
The teams clashed in this week’s first 405 Derby Wednesday in Irvine, with Los Dos taking an early lead but a brace from Ugo Okoli flipped the result to make it 2-1 for OCSC on the night. The win was significant, since it came with Orange County and Galaxy II level on points, with LA slipping just ahead of OCSC in the standings at the start of the week.
So that means this game is huge — if LA win, the teams are back to level on points again and Orange County, who have lost only one game all season so far, could be in some risk of missing the playoffs with a mad dash to the finish. If Orange County win, they’ll have a six-point lead on Los Dos and can turn their attention to trying to catch Phoenix Rising in first place, a prospect that is certainly possible given the Arizona team’s inconsistent form this summer.
So this isn’t a regular game between local teams, it’s a crucial game in Group B play and could be a milestone in either team’s season. We’ll see how this one shapes up.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 18 points (5-1-3); Goal Difference: +4; Last five games: W-D-L-W-W
LA Galaxy II: 15 points (5-4-0), Goal Difference: -1; Last five games: L-W-W-L-L
