NWSL expansion team Angel City FC is scheduled to hit the field in 2022, but this year will be one full of preparations for the newest professional team in Los Angeles, and this week the club provided some updates.

In fact, they gave a quick whirlwind tour of the latest and what’s on tap for ACFC in 2021 as they gear up for the big launch.

First of all, huge kudos to the club for doing a public recap like this at all. I’ve covered and followed several expansion teams launching and they pretty much never do this, instead opting to keep preparations under cloak and dagger and not really building momentum with a progress report. When it comes to a project like a stadium build, it is easier to show the work being done, but soccer operations updates or teasing business developments seldom happen in a public forum like social media, so this is good to see.

And it will be a busy year. While we know the official name and where they will play (Banc of California Stadium), this year we should see the crest reveal, the GM/Technical Director hire, the coach hired, the first player signings, season tickets go on sale, the kit sponsor reveal, hopefully the kits themselves revealed (although that may not happen until 2022), more business news dropping, and the community around the club building. It’s an exciting time, and while we have a bit longer to wait for the soccer games to begin, there’s plenty of news to come in the year ahead.
