LAFC announced Wednesday they have re-signed defender Jordan Harvey to a new one-year contract ahead of the 2021 season.
Harvey, 36, will return for his fourth season with the black-and-gold, and his 16th in MLS overall.
“Jordan has been an integral part of our Club since joining us ahead of our inaugural campaign in 2018,” said Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington in a team statement. “Not only has he brought a wealth of experience and leadership to the locker room, but he has also served as a fantastic ambassador in our community.”
Harvey spent much of the 2020 season as a backup at left back behind Diego Palacios, but he still made 14 appearances across all competitions for LAFC, including eight starts. And despite playing his entire career as a left back, when LAFC struggled for healthy bodies at center back down the stretch Harvey stepped in and did a job in an emergency capacity, too.
I think this is a solid move for LAFC. With Mohamed El-Munir rumored to be signing abroad, and Palacios potentially picking up transfer interest at some point, bringing back Harvey for another season is a wise bet. I think his ability to stay healthy and fit and ready is underrated, even among LAFC’s fanbase, and at this point the club is going to continue to bet on him until the wheels fall off. Based on what he’s done in his first three seasons here, it’s not happened yet.
