The saga continues. With just five matches remaining in the MLS regular season, and LAFC needing wins from here on out, one big question still looms. When will the black-and-gold see the return of their two star players?
Carlos Vela and Eduard Atuesta have been, cautiously, working their way back into the squad, Vela out since mid-August with a quad injury, Atuesta suffering from a shoulder ailment at present. During the team's media availability on Tuesday, ahead of Wednesday’s clash at FC Dallas, head coach Bob Bradley gave an update on the duo that perhaps left more questions than answers.
“Let’s start with Carlos and Eduard, both still questionable. We are trying to bring these guys back as quickly as we can, in a way that won't push them over the top,” Bradley said to begin the press conference. Usually, questionable is used when a player is close to returning, or perhaps slated to come on as a sub, however, when asked to clarify whether or not the duo would even travel with the team, Bradley seemed to take a step back.
“It’s likely that they [Carlos and Eduard] will not travel to Dallas. Those are discussions we will finish up when I go inside. Then, the possibility, if they continue to make the progress that we hope, to be ready for the next game.”
With LAFC set for a brief two match road trip, it appears, at least for Dallas this Wednesday, they will once again be without the duo. It's also highly unlikely that either will return to a full 90 minutes in their first match back, so even if they did meet the team in Minnesota, they’d likely be used as subs. With only five matches left, the team could use all the help they could get in their fight for a postseason spot. We’ll see what happens, starting Wednesday.
