The road wasn’t easy, but Orange County SC won their USL Championship playoff game since 2018, defeating Colorado Springs Switchback FC 1-0 at Championship Soccer Stadium on Saturday.
Ronaldo Damus had the game-winner for OCSC, the youngster latching onto a cross/shot off a long throw-in and making no mistake in traffic inside the box.
The game was even more challenging than merely holding onto the one-goal lead, however, as Robbie Kiernan picked up a straight red card at the half-hour mark for Orange County, his challenge on Thomas Amang with the Switchbacks FC player bearing down on goal deemed a denial of a goalscoring opportunity.
But Orange County have played like a playoff team throughout the season, and the savvy suited them on the night, as they squeezed the life out of the game and saw out the victory.
Coming up next, Orange County SC will host their next playoff game, against a familiar opponent in Oakland Roots, who won their first-ever USL Championship game on Friday, 1-0 over El Paso Locomotive on the road.
OCSC and Oakland will square off in the Western Conference semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 13, at Championship Soccer Stadium in Irvine. The game will be streamed as well on ESPN+, and kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm PT. One down, here’s hoping we see a few more this year for Orange County SC.
