Orange County SC announced Wednesday they have signed midfielder Tommy McCabe ahead of the 2021 season.
The 22-year-old joins after two seasons under contract at FC Cincinnati, where he made seven appearances after being drafted in the 2nd round of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft out of Notre Dame. In 2019, he spent a stint on loan at North Carolina FC, then in the USL Championship, and last season he had a loan spell at another USL Championship side, Memphis 901 FC.
“We are delighted to add Tommy, a gifted midfielder and standout professional to our roster,” said OCSC President of Soccer Operations Oliver Wyss in a team statement. “Tommy has great leadership qualities, and we are looking forward to him showcasing his talent in Orange County!”

I think this is a really promising signing. McCabe is still really young, he’s got some pro experience, and he’s got a quiet but tidy game, playing a holding role while also capable of pinging passes. I would not be surprised if he gets a real run and truly starts to blossom as a pro, hopefully at Orange County.
