NWSL expansion team Angel City FC announced Thursday they have entered a partnership with delivery service company DoorDash. As part of the agreement, DoorDash will be the main front-of-jersey sponsor for ACFC from the inaugural 2022 season.
In addition, the company and club will team up and donate $1 million to providing food for those in need in the Los Angeles area, with the club pledging to provide 250,000 meals for those who are food insecure in the first year of the partnership, as they work with local organization CARE to identify those who are in need of help.
“Today marks a major milestone in the evolution of Angel City Football Club as we welcome DoorDash as our founding front-of-kit partner,” said Julie Uhrman, Co-Founder and President of Angel City FC in a team statement. “DoorDash aligns with our mission to make a positive impact across Los Angeles and beyond. We are so moved to see them immediately mobilize our partnership by helping get meals to those across Los Angeles who may otherwise go without. This is just the beginning and I look forward to the impact we will make together in the years to come.”
For those in Los Angeles who order food through DoorDash on Feb. 18, if they order food from a list of women-owned businesses on the app, $5 of their order price will go to CARE to help fund the initiatives, up to $15,000.
Frankly, DoorDash is a pretty significant jersey sponsor, and it’s one that few pro teams in the United States — men’s or women’s — can match. It’s a pretty significant statement of intent by Angel City FC to demonstrate a women’s pro soccer team can get big sponsorship power like this, and hopefully this is a sign of things to come, for the club and the NWSL moving forward alike.
