The defender, who started at right back in LAFC’s 2-0 win over Austin FC last week, has been listed as out by the club for the Sounders game due to “Health & Safety protocols” which could mean one of several things:
* Health & Safety Protocols include the following reasons:
Quarantine related to high risk close contact
Quarantine due to high risk behavior
Pending COVID-19 Test Results
Inconclusive COVID-19 Test Results
Positive COVID-19 test or confirmed case
Other illness not related to COVID-19
So, Blackmon is out. Who will start at right back?
Great question! Bob Bradley said on Thursday the other player we thought would be in contention to start right back this season, Kim Moon-hwan, is not fully fit and at best may be able to come off the bench against Seattle.
What about Erik Dueñas? The homegrown was complimented by Bradley for his preseason, but he is also listed as out for this game, with an ankle injury.
From there, it’s a big question. I suppose the most straightforward response would be to move Latif Blessing to right back and then bring in Jose Cifuentes or Francisco Ginella in midfield. Marco Farfan could also make his debut for the club at right back, or Eddie Segura, who did spot duty at right back in 2020, could slide over and someone else could play center back.
So we’ll see.
In other injury news, the club lists Diego Rossi (hamstring) and Carlos Vela (quad) as questionable, as expected, while Danny Musovski (hip) and Corey Baird (back) are both listed as questionable, too. That is...the top four forwards on the depth chart, so there may be big changes if all four players sit. Mahala Opoku will likely play, but Cal Jennings and Christian Torres could be in line to get their first minutes this season depending on who can play among the top line choices.
