Orange County SC are back in action on Saturday, in the first 405 Derby clash of the 2021 season against LA Galaxy II, this one in Irvine.
OCSC won their first game of the season last weekend, a hard-fought 1-0 decision over Sacramento Republic, also at home. That was a clash between two teams that fancy themselves contenders this season, and Orange County did what they needed to in order to get the win.
They’ll face a Galaxy II side that is coming off a tough week, drawing 10 days ago to Sporting KC II before losing in stoppage time to Oakland Roots at the weekend, both of those games in Carson. Despite that, it’s been a good start to the season for Los Dos, who have racked up games early in the season, and who are therefore thoroughly match fit at this point in their campaign.
I think this Galaxy II side, while a bit different than last year’s squad in terms of personnel, plays well and generally a very savvy style of soccer. Orange County know they can’t take this game off against an MLS2 side, both because they’ve already lost to one this year, and the games they dropped against Galaxy II last season cost them a playoff berth. Every game could count again this season, and this game is going to be another battle. Virtually all the games will be battles this season, of course, but it’s another tough assignment yet another opportunity to wrestle a victory in a six-pointer in the Pacific Division. Bring it on.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 3 points (1-1-0), 2nd place in Pacific Division; Goal Difference: 0; Last two games: W-L
LA Galaxy II: 8 points (2-2-2), 5th place in Pacific Division; Goal Difference: +5; Last five games: L-D-W-D-W
How to Watch Orange County SC vs. LA Galaxy II: The game is scheduled to kick off at 7 pm PT at Championship Soccer Stadium in Irvine on Saturday. You can watch this game on ESPN+ throughout the United States.
