Orange County SC will look to keep their unbeaten run going on Saturday evening, when they host Oakland Roots for the teams’ first meeting ever.
OCSC are on short rest, having played San Diego Loyal to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday at Orange County Great Park. It was a tough game, you could argue San Diego had the better of the run of play, but Loyal goalkeeper Trey Muse was immense and arguably kept Orange County from winning the match. All in all, it was probably a pretty fair result for both teams.
Their opponent has been off for 10 days, most recently playing Sacramento Republic to a wild 3-3 draw. Oakland have only played three games so far, but they’ve been playing pretty well, and I don’t think they’re going to sink to be cannon fodder as an expansion team in the USL Championship, and I think they will be in the running for a playoff spot for much of the season.
With a new opponent, you never quite know how things will go, but Orange County will hope they are finding their rhythm and can get another win against Oakland. Will they get that, or will the wily Roots pick up another result on the road? Should be another fascinating game.
